Weekend(s) Wrap Up

Now that I am back from my honeymoon and over the jet lag I have settled back into regular life.

Last weekend was my husband's birthday.  It was on a Friday and since we had just been gone for 2 weeks we decided to just go to work and celebrate it over the weekend.  I woke up a little early and put a whole assortment of Happy Birthday notes around our condo and put his present out for him to find when he go up.  He has been wanting a special edition of the first 6 Avengers movies that come in a collection called Avengers Assembled so that is what I got him.

Saturday we met up with his family at Koja Kitchen for some delicious food and fun family time. Since he loves Marvel movies and I had bought him a box set as a present I decided it was only appropriate to make the whole birthday dinner Avengers themed.

I made some super hero toppers for the pumpkin chocolate chip bran muffins I made for the birthday dinner desert.

Sunday I had a quite relaxing day and when I finally got moving and out of the house I headed to get a pedicure.  My feet were happy to have the pampering!

After the pampering I headed to do those normal Sunday errands like grocery shopping for the week.

Not everyone get the day off but since I work for the government I had Monday off for Columbus Day. I used my extra day to head to the gym and finish up my Halloween decorating at home.  I was so excited to use my new spiderweb table runner. A whole post on my Halloween decorations coming soon.

After a busy week at work I was looking forward to having a fun Saturday and then getting some stuff done on Sunday.  My weekend didn't turn out quite like I planned.

Saturday morning my husband and I picked up our niece for the day so her parents could go away for their anniversary.  After some bagels and Starbucks we took her to our local Egyptian museum. After the fun at the museum we headed to catch a mid afternoon showing of Storks.  The movie was actually better than I was expected.  It was super cute and had a sweet message.  Right before we headed into the moves we realized my husband had lost his keys.  After the movies we went back to the museum to retrace our steps...

While retracing our steps I managed to fall down the last step of a set of stairs.  In my defense the stairs were black and it was getting dark.  I managed to fall down and land full force right on the side of my right foot.  It hurt and by the time we got home was swelling.  I kept it elevated and iced it but by Sunday morning it was obvious I had to go the doctor. They did an x-ray at urgent care and yep it is broken!

Urgent care gave me a wrap and some crutches to tide me over and set up an appointment with the podiatrist for today.  I stayed home from work today and went to the appointment.

Thankfully I am able to wear an aircast that allows me to walk so I don't have to use the crutches.  I have to wear it for at least 4 weeks and then I might get to wear something smaller for another few weeks.

Obviously this was not quite the weekend I was planning but I am thankful the break wasn't worse than it is so I will deal with the inconvenience for now. The biggest inconvenience actually is that because it is my right foot I can't drive for a while.

Stitch Fix #16

My next box just arrived and I realized that since my previous box had arrived the week before my trip I didn't get the post written before I left. Time to play catch-up for last month but come back next week to hear all about my current box.

This dress was cute in theory but when I put it on the waist didn't hit in the right spot so therefore the hip darts were also in the wrong spot. I like the fabric and the striped pattern but it had to go back

This one was also cute but as you can see from the picture it wrinkles very easily.  If it is this wrinkly just from being in a box than it is going to be a mess by the end of a day wearing it.  Not worth the ironing hassle so it too went back.

I love scarves (especially infinity ones) but this is not a color pallet I wear very often.  I thought about keeping it but just didn't think I would get enough use out of it to justify it.

This black high low t-shirt was just blah.  Just a tad see through and nothing special.  I am not really in the market for a new black t-shirt so this one went back also.

After all of that I did end up keeping the 5th item in my box.  These gold filigree earrings are now part of my jewelry collection. I wore them the other day and despite being fairly large earrings they are very light and don't pull on my earlobes at all.

I only kept one thing from this box but come back next week to see what I kept from my current box. Hint: It was more than one thing!

If you want your own box feel free to use my link

Happy shopping!

I'm Back!

I am back in the country (and on my blog)! I spent the past two weeks with my husband on a wonderful honeymoon in Europe but now I am back home and back to real life. I took hundreds of pictures that I have yet to got through but here are just a few of them.  I knew we would be eating tons of delicious food so I made a point to take a picture of our meals before we ate.  With the exception of breakfasts (when we ate it) and a few ice cream cones I managed to remember to take pictures of all of our meals so expect a few post just dedicated to food and drink.

Many more post to come!

Life Lately-August

Just a random bunch of photos of what I was up to in the month of August.

My floor at work is under construction which means I don't have a desk at the moment.  At least I have a work laptop so I am mobile. My boss went on vacation so I got to sit at her desk and enjoy the view while she was gone.  Kind of a pain not having a desk but the view was nice.

Gotta love a theatre that serves wine! This theatre had those comfy reclining seats which would be great on a weekend but we were watching a movie after a long day at work so it took some effort not to fall asleep.

Every year my office has its retreat at this great place in the Santa Cruz mountains.  This place is so pretty and it is always nice to get away from the office and the daily routine.

In the middle of August I flew up to Seattle to go to a baby shower of one of my cousins. Despite the unseasonably warm weather while I was there I had a lovely time.

My cousin was pregnant with her first child and as you can tell from all the blue decorations she was having a little boy.  For so many years everyone on that side of my family had girl after girl but the last 3 babies born have been boys.

One of cute party favors was little bottles of alcohol labeled as baby making potion.  I took this one home but I haven't drunk it yet!

Near the end of the month I got a nice visit all of the other side of my family for a not so happy reason. My grandfather passed away at the ripe old age of 91 so his funeral brought my whole family to the same place at the same time. While it was not the happiest of occasions it was very nice to see everyone.

After a nice month it is time to September adventures!

A Birthday Mystery Guest!

Over Labor Day weekend I flew to Pennsylvania with my parents to help my sister celebrate her 30th birthday.  The fun thing about this trip was that my sister had no idea that I was flying in for her birthday.  She knew my parents were coming but had no idea I was joining them on this trip. In my family this is called being the mystery guest.  It may sound odd to just show up somewhere but in my family it is perfectly acceptable to show up to a party/event as a mystery guest.  Someone always knows you are coming but you are the mystery guest to everyone else.

Her birthday was the Friday of Labor Day weekend so we took a red-eye flight Thursday night and were there in time to take her to a birthday lunch. Her dessert came on a slab and my mom thought she should eat the chocolate by licking it. It was pretty funny so I had to take a picture of course.

After lunch it was nap time for us (we did take a red-eye after all) and study time for her. After my nap and a shower it was time to get ready for the main event.

We headed downtown to a farm to table Italian restaurant called Molinari's. While we waited for everyone to get there we decided to start the evening with a pitcher (or two) of white sangria. The evening was warm so this was a perfect way to start it off.

My sister looked fabulous in her navy blue maxi dress and I went for colorful in my dress. My dress is so comfy that I felt like I was wearing my pajamas. As you can see there is no family resemblance at all!

Three of my sister's friends met us for dinner and the food did not disappoint. I had a pizza and a glass of wine for dinner and trio of gelato for dessert. I don't remember the other two flavors I had but the strawberry basil was my favorite.

After dinner we headed over to a distillery to meet up with a bunch of my sister's med school friends for drinks.

My sister had some kind of cucumber martini and I had a "Violet, you're turning Violet" martini.  Both drinks were delicious but a long day of traveling and fun it was time to call it a night.

Saturday we went out to a fabulous little (and I do mean little) place for brunch.  I had a breakfast mac and cheese but didn't take any pictures.  We spent the rest of Saturday at my sister's place playing Hand and Foot and Mexican Train.  After working up an appetite loosing at both games we went to a gastropub for dinner. Everything we ate there was delicious but again no pictures.

Sunday morning we headed out to brunch at an Irish pub with live music.  We ended up sitting right by the band so it was a bit loud but we had fun and the food was good.

Sunday afternoon we drove to New Jersey to catch our flight back to California.  I was sad to leave my sister but also excited to see my husband after 3 days away.

My parents were flying first class and I was going to fly in the back but at the last minute there was a cheap upgrade so I got to fly first class too. Thanks parents! I had a glass of wine while waiting in the first class lounge and then we boarded our flight. The flight home was uneventful and I passed my time watching food shows and reading in my comfy seat.

Home from this trip but only home briefly before heading off on my honeymoon!
